What I do

Decorating, repairs, shelves and fixings, and the odd garden tidy‑up – done carefully, with no job too small. I'll tell you honestly what's needed before I start.

Decorating & Finishing

Interior painting, ceilings, woodwork, skirting, bannisters and staircases. I fill, sand and caulk before any paint goes on. Low-VOC paints as standard.

Home repairs and maintenance in Bromley

Repairs & Maintenance

Small wall repairs and patching, sticking doors, re-grouting, tiling and splashbacks, silicone sealant, loose patio slabs. Fixed before they turn into bigger jobs.

Assembling flat-pack furniture in Bromley

Shelves, Blinds & Fixings

Shelves, blinds, curtain poles, TV mounts and flat-pack assembly. Fixed properly into brick or plasterboard, level and solid – the bit most people would rather not do themselves.

Garden tidy up in Bromley

Garden Tidy‑ups

Seasonal tidy‑ups and clearing overgrowth. Chemical‑free – no pesticides or herbicides.

Reliable handyman for the jobs that don't need a big firm.

I focus on the small‑to‑medium jobs that bigger trades often ignore – painting a single room, fixing a sticky door, assembling flat‑pack furniture, tidying a garden. I'll turn up when I say I will, do the job carefully, and clean up afterwards.

You won't get a subcontractor or a rushed job. Just me, doing the work properly, and making sure you're happy before I leave.

Shows up on time

If I'm delayed, I'll tell you. No disappearing acts.

Honest about what's needed

I'll tell you if something doesn't need doing, or if a repair is urgent. No upselling.

Leaves it tidy

Dust sheets, cleaning as I go, full tidy‑up at the end. You'll only know I've been by the work that's done.

What is a trained Energy Adviser — and why does it matter?

A qualified Energy Adviser is trained to assess how a home actually performs — where heat escapes, where ventilation fails, where moisture builds up and why energy bills stay high.

Most tradespeople fix what's visible. An Energy Adviser looks at the whole picture — identifying causes, not just symptoms.

I offer a free home energy check with every job. No products to sell, no agenda. Just practical, honest advice on what's worth addressing and what isn't.

🎓 Free home energy check included with every job — just ask when you call.

Lower energy bills

Identifying where heat escapes — loft, walls, doors and windows — and what simple fixes make the biggest difference.

Healthier air quality

Poor ventilation causes condensation and poor air quality. An energy check identifies problems before they become expensive.

Draught-proofing & insulation

Loft top-ups, pipe insulation, draught-proofing doors, windows and floorboards — carried out properly.

Honest priorities

Not everything needs doing at once. I'll tell you what makes a real difference and what can wait — so you spend wisely.

Charlie with his bicycle and cargo trailer in Bromley

One person. Fully accountable.

I started Charlie Smartly in June 2026 because I wanted to run something of my own – a small independent business serving the streets around me, doing good work at prices households can actually afford.

Before this I spent nearly ten years as an audio technician, trained as an electrician's mate, and ran a language school abroad. Later I qualified as an Energy Adviser. The work suits me because no two jobs are the same – some days I'm using skills I've had for years, others I'm learning something new. I'll always tell you honestly which one you're getting.

I arrive by bicycle and cargo trailer. No van means no fuel, no parking charges and no time lost circling for a space – and none of that lands on your bill. It means I work harder to get to you and plan each job carefully, but the saving is yours whatever you make of the environmental side.

I'd like this to work well enough that other people copy it. If you're a tradesperson thinking about doing the same, ask me – I'll tell you everything I've learned.

One person, no subcontractors, nobody to pass the blame to. My name is on it.

  • One point of contact from first call to finished job
  • No subcontractors – I do the work myself
  • Honest assessment before anything starts
  • Low-VOC paints and safer materials as standard
  • Trained Energy Adviser – free home energy check with every job
  • Travel by bicycle and cargo trailer – no vehicle emissions

Environmental statement

I work without a van. Every job is reached by bicycle and cargo trailer, so getting to you produces no vehicle emissions – and no fuel or parking costs land on your bill.

Low‑VOC paints are standard. No pesticides or herbicides are used in gardens. As a qualified Energy Adviser, I'll tell you where your home is losing heat while I'm there, at no charge.

I avoid disposable plastic where the trade allows, which is less often than it should be. A good deal of what I buy arrives wrapped for no good reason. I haven't solved that one and won't claim otherwise.

That is the whole of it – one person, a bicycle, and a set of habits I can account for.
